El porcentaje de fracasos de los estudiantes que han visto el curso de Física 1 en la Universidad de los Andes, desde el primer semestre de 2001 hasta el primer semestre de 2005, es del 45% . Para poder detectar y diagnosticar las deficiencias básicas, en los estudiantes que ingresan al primer curso de física, se diseñó un quiz que contestan los estudiantes nuevos en la primera semana de clases. Con este quiz hemos podido obtener información sobre las deficiencias básicas que traen los estudiantes en aritmética, álgebra, geometría, trigonometría y física fundamental. Los resultados de este quiz se han correlacionado con la nota final de Física 1, con el examen del ICFES, y otros resultados, que nos permiten predecir qué probabilidad de tienen los estudiantes de aprobar el curso de Física 1 en la Universidad de los Andes, y recomendarles tomar el curso de Prefísica a los estudiantes con baja probabilidad de éxito . Otras estadísticas que se presentan en este trabajo, nos dan información sobre el nivel académico promedio de los estudiantes de calendario A, con respecto a los estudiantes de calendario B.

The percent of student failures in the physics 1 class of Universidad de los Andes , since the first semester of 2001 through the first semester of 2005, is about 45%. To be able to detect and diagnose the basic deficiencies of the students entering to the first course of physics, we have designed a quiz that has to be answered by the new students in the first week of classes. With this quiz we have been able to obtain information about the basic deficiencies that the students have in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and basic physics. The results of this quiz have been correlated with the final grade of physics 1, the results of the ICFES exam, and other results which enable us to predict the probability that the students have to pass the physics 1 course in Universidad de los Andes and suggest to take the course of PREPHYSICS to the students with low probability of success, other statistical analysis that are presented here give information about the average academic level of calendar A students compared to calendar B students.
